How to Make a Music Video on iPhone (3 Easy Ways)

You do not need a camera crew or a laptop to make a music video. If you want to make a video with music on iPhone, the phone in your pocket can film, edit and export a video that looks good on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. What changes is how much time you want to spend.
Here are three ways to do it, from the most hands-on to the least:
| Method | Time | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Film and edit in iMovie | A few hours | A performance video |
| 2. Photos and your song | Under an hour | Memories, fan edits |
| 3. AI from one photo | A few minutes | A finished video, fast |
Method 1: Film yourself and edit in iMovie
Best for singers and bands who want to perform on camera.
Film the takes
- Play the song out loud from a second device, like another phone or a speaker, so you can sing along to the exact recording.
- Prop the iPhone on something steady, or use a cheap tripod. Shaky footage is the fastest way to make a video look homemade.
- Before you press record, touch and hold your face on the screen until AE/AF Lock appears. This stops the exposure and focus from jumping around mid-take.
- Film the whole song several times from different spots: one wide shot, one close-up, one from the side. Start every take from the beginning of the song so the takes line up later.
Film in the shape you will post: hold the phone upright for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, sideways for YouTube.
Edit in iMovie
iMovie is free from Apple and runs on any recent iPhone.
- Open iMovie, tap Start New Project, then Movie.
- Select your takes and tap Create Movie.
- Tap the + button, choose Audio & Music, then Files or My Music to add the original song.
- Lay your best wide take along the whole song, then cut in close-ups at the moments that matter: the first line, the chorus, the last note.
- Turn down the sound of the video clips so only the clean song plays.
- Tap Done, then the share button, and Save Video.
The hard part is the timing. Cuts feel right when they land on the beat, so cut on the first beat of a bar rather than wherever the clip happens to end.
Method 2: Make a picture video with music on iPhone
Best when the photos are the story: a tour diary, a year in review, a song for someone.
Both iMovie and CapCut can do this on iPhone. The steps are almost the same:
- Start a new project and select your photos in the order you want them.
- Add your song (in iMovie: +, Audio & Music, Files; in CapCut: Audio, then your sounds from the device).
- Set how long each photo stays on screen by dragging its edges.
- Add a slow zoom to each photo so the video never feels frozen.
- Export in the shape of the platform you will post on.
The trick that makes a photo video feel professional is changing photos on the beat. Our full guide on how to make a video with pictures and music shows how to work out photo lengths from the song's BPM. If you do not know the BPM, tap along with our free tap tempo tool.
Method 3: Make an AI music video from one photo
Best for musicians who want a real music video without filming or editing anything.
Methods 1 and 2 can only show footage and photos you already have. An AI music video generator uses one photo of the singer as a reference and creates new scenes around the song: performing on a stage, walking through a city at night, singing in the rain. Every shot is animated and the whole video is cut to the beat for you.
AIMusicVideoGen runs in Safari, so there is no app to install:
- Open aimusicvideogen.com on your iPhone and sign in.
- Tap to upload your song. MP3, WAV and M4A all work, including songs saved from Suno.
- Upload one clear photo of the singer from your Photos.
- Pick the shape (9:16 for TikTok and Reels, 16:9 for YouTube) and how much of the song to use.
- Tap Create. The credit cost is shown on the button before you start.
When it is done, download the video to your iPhone and post it. If a shot has an obvious glitch, like a twisted hand or a flicker, Redo shots (within 7 days) makes just that shot again as a new take from the same starting picture, while the rest of the video stays the same. Each redo is a new attempt, so the result can differ, and you can still download the version you had before.
What we noticed testing it on our own iPhones: the screen stays clean, and making a full music video takes a few taps, with no settings to learn. Once the video is ready, watch it all the way through. If a shot has an obvious problem, like an AI glitch such as a hand passing through an object, you can redo just that shot instead of starting again. There is also a separate lip sync mode that makes your photo sing a 5 to 15 second part of the song, and it works the same simple way. And if you do not have a song yet, you can make one on the site first and turn it straight into a music video.

| Instagram feed | 4:5 or 1:1 | 1080 × 1350 or 1080 × 1080 |

Tips for a better iPhone music video
- Light from the front. Face a window or a lamp. Light from behind turns you into a silhouette.
- Wipe the lens. A smudged lens makes everything look hazy, and phones get smudged all the time.
- Hook in the first two seconds. Start with your strongest shot; people scroll away fast.
- Use your own music. Songs from Apple Music cannot be added to an edit, and other people's songs can get your video muted or taken down.
